Give away reminder, and Undersized Urbanite Dollhouse update (very small update)

I just want to remind you that the Give Away of one of my mother's original miniature paintings ends tomorrow, February 20, at midnight.

In order to be eligible for the giveaway, all you need to do is, 1. Be a follower of this blog, and 2. Leave a comment on any post that I put on the blog before midnight, February 20, 2013 (starting with my previous post). My mother will dedicate the painting to you, and the provenance of the painting will include your name.

My mother is a professional artist, here are a few of her miniature paintings:

Her signature and title of the painting are on the back
of the canvas.

Undersized Urbanite Dollhouse Update

Unfortunately, I have not been able to advance very far on the Art Deco house, but here are a few ideas I have been playing with.
First, I purchased some small Harlequin dolls on eBay,

They did not look very distinguished (or happy) as clowns, so I have begun their transformation,

One of these ladies will live in the Art Deco House (with 1920s or 30s clothes of course). Along these lines:

(But happier, I hope.)
I will have more photos of the house soon. It now has two stories and will look like a combination of these inspiration houses:

Did you know?

I am not the only "architect" inspired by 1930s' radio designs. Eritrea's capital, Asmara, has over 400 Art Deco buildings that were built during the final years of Italian colonial rule. One of those buildings is the "Bar Zilli" building which was built to imitate a 1930s Art Deco radio with windows made to look the tuning knobs of a radio.

Like the first story, front windows of my Art Deco house,

Last but not least
Modern is modern is modern

    1. Thanks Maria! Hopefully, I will be able to dress them in something other than the clown suits...

  2. Neen, you and I share the same esthethic. And, I did not know that about Eritrea - another thing to add to my Bucket list, although, last I knew (and this was a very, very long time ago) Eritrea was at war with Ethiopia. So, your house will imitate a building imitating your radio. How cool!

    1. Yes, it will imitate a building imitating a radio imitating a building! I ran across the information about Eritrea by accident, but, thus far, haven't found pictures of very many other Art Deco buildings there. Another great source for Art Deco buildings is Havana, Cuba. When they built them in Miami, they built them there as well. Hopefully, one day, we will be able to visit them!

  3. :D Thanks for the shoutout.

The doll makeovers are incredible. Is that Greta Garbo?

Those are some of my favorite art deco houses. Have you seen the work of Henry Colbert? His work is incredible, I have some posts on him here:

    2. Forgot to mention, yes, that is Greta Garbo (she rarely smiled, if ever).

  4. I love what you have done with the Harlequin dolls. I would never have looked at them and imagined they could become elegant 1930s ladies. I really must start looking at things with more imagination and vision.

  5. Your mother's paintings are great! And what a wonderful idea for dolls for your art deco house - it would never have occurred to me, but they are already looking very 1920s.

Do you know this blog? http://artdecobuildings.blogspot.com.au/ It has photos of art deco buildings from around the world - many in Australia, but also China, Argentina, Eritrea, South Africa, the US, Uruguay, Canada, etc, etc.
