How has your year been so far? The new year has hit the DC/Maryland/Virginia area with lots of snow and ice, and it's very, very cold! It snows every year, and every year DC and Virginia are shocked, "Snow? Here?"
(A congressional staffer skiing to work.)
There are some DC residents, however, who are very happy about the snow:
(All of the animals are residents of the National Zoo, and the photos are used courtesy of the Smithsonian.)
The Ornament Challenge.
Mini Dork has challenged miniaturists to create a scene using a holiday ornament (find further details on my sidebar or go to Modern Mini Houses). Unfortunately, the ornament I wanted to use didn't work in any scene. In fact, it looked horrible in every scene. Since every other ornament is in my attic, I used part of a calendar photo depicting the Chinese New Year being celebrated in DC.
There are fireworks outside.
Wishing you only good things, Neen
(The Eileen Gray chairs are Reac; the fireplace is a Dollar Tree photo frame; the "electric fire" is part of a light-up bracelet; the table is composed of stacked, clear bobbins; the calico cat is from AG Minis; and the "occupant" is hand-made by an unknown artist. She was purchased from an estate sale at Circus Circus Dollhouse.)
The copyrights to the animal photos belong to the Smithsonian Museum.
* The Chinese New Year is February 19, 2015
** The Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashana, was September 24-26, 2014
Cool! The bobbin table is so clever as are the fireplace (frame) and fire (bracelet). Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteThank you Penelope, I hope you also have a very happy new year!
DeleteGreat scene, Neen, I like the fireplace idea :D!
ReplyDeleteI love the pictures of all the animals in the snow, wow, they have a lot of fun! But I think lots of people don't have that fun with this cold weather and those ship loads of snow!
My best wishes to you and yours for 2015!
Hugs, Ilona
Thanks Ilona! You are right about snow. I am originally from the "snowiest city in North America" so I know how difficult snow can be. I just love to watch the zoo animals enjoying the snow. At the National Zoo, they have more of natural habitat than most other zoos, but nothing can simulate the snow that certain animals need. xx
DeleteYou never cease to amaze me with your dollar store projects! I love how you did the fireworks in the bakground.
ReplyDeleteI almost forgot...Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the lovely comments, I hope you and your family have a wonderful 2015!
DeleteNeen you are not just so creative, but with good taste! I love that scene it is just how I like to celebrate New Years...warm and cozy. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you, gm! I'm with you, give me a good book and a warm fire and I'm in heaven. xx
DeleteLove the fireplace!! Thanks for playing! :D
ReplyDeleteI just posted the participants so far: http://modernminihouses.blogspot.com/2015/02/ornament-challengers.html
